What are CCTV video alerts?
Feel safe by monitoring the perimeter of your property. Video analytics uses cutting-edge artificial intelligence, developed by Alarm.com’s computer vision research team. It can tell whether a moving object in your driveway is a person, an animal or a vehicle. It can ignore a tree swaying in the wind, but alert you if a person comes to your front door. It makes these distinctions in real time before alerting you, according to your preferences.
- Vehicles come and go: Know when a vehicle stops outside your home, but not every time a vehicle drives past.
- Visitors: Get a video alert when a package is delivered, or catch a suspicious a person in your front or back yard.
- Pets break the rules: Know if your pet breaks the rules to nap on the couch when you’re at work—or if your neighbour’s dog pays an unwelcome visit to your lawn.

FAQs
It depends on the property, but installing CCTV on multi-storey homes after construction can be difficult and, in many cases, not cost-effective.
The main challenge is getting cabling between floors. If the home wasn’t pre-wired during construction, running cables from the modem or network location to upstairs camera positions is often very difficult without invasive work.
Because of this, we typically start with a phone consultation for double-storey homes. We can review your layout, check the property on Google Maps, and provide initial advice and a ballpark estimate. If the project looks viable, we can then arrange a site visit.
Pre-wiring during construction is by far the best option. It’s a step many people miss, but it gives you the flexibility to install a proper, reliable system later.
If cabling isn’t practical, other options exist but they come with trade-offs. Wireless systems depend on strong, consistent Wi-Fi, and battery cameras require ongoing maintenance. If a camera drops offline or loses power, you risk missing a critical event.
A hardwired system is always the most reliable. We’ll always explain the limitations upfront so you can make an informed decision.
The best outcome is achieved when we’re involved early in the build process—especially for multi-storey homes or properties with solid ceilings and walls, where running cables later can be difficult or limited.
First fix (pre-plaster stage):
This is the most important stage , especially systems which require hard wired cabling (e.g. cameras). Cabling is run through walls and ceilings before plaster goes on, allowing us to position everything exactly where it’s needed with no visible wiring or restrictions.
Second fix (fit-off stage):
After plastering and painting are complete, we install the equipment—sensors, cameras, keypads, and control panels—then complete system programming and testing.
Planning your security system early, ideally during the electrical rough-in, gives you the most flexibility and the cleanest finish. It also avoids costly workarounds or compromises later.
This is an opportunity many people miss, and it can significantly impact what’s achievable once the build is complete.
Yes, you can upgrade to video monitoring, where operators can verify alarm activations using camera footage before dispatch. This helps improve response accuracy and reduce false alarms.

Yes - an Alarm.com compatible Blu Sky security system allows you to monitor and control your security from your smartphone.
Using the Alarm.com app, you can arm and disarm your alarm, view live and recorded CCTV footage, lock and unlock doors, and receive real-time alerts.
The same app works for both homes and businesses. If you manage multiple sites, you can switch between locations using a single login.
You can also grant temporary access to family, staff, or trades, and revoke it instantly when no longer needed.
Whether you’re at work, on holiday, or interstate, you have full visibility and control—right from your phone.
Ongoing costs depend on the level of service you choose, such as app-only alerts or full professional monitoring.
If you use the Alarm.com app or add control room monitoring, there is a small ongoing service fee.
This is because the Alarm.com platform is not just an app—it’s a secure, always-on cloud service that delivers real-time alerts, remote access, video streaming, and full system control. It also maintains the cellular connection between your system and the monitoring centre.
Your system runs on a dedicated AT&T SIM, operating across Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone networks to ensure reliable communication, even if other services fail.
The platform is continuously updated with the latest security and feature improvements, keeping your system current over time. Video services include advanced analytics, secure VPN connections, and cloud storage for reliable access and review.
Built-in redundancies and additional security checks ensure the system performs when it matters most.
Without this service, your system will still operate locally - but you won’t receive alerts or have remote access or control.
Any properly built cloud-based security system comes with ongoing costs. Secure hosting, cellular connectivity, updates, and infrastructure all require continuous investment. If a platform claims to offer all of this for free, it’s worth asking how that service is being maintained and what trade-offs are being made behind the scenes.
As a rule, it’s always worth reading the fine print - make sure the platform is being securely hosted, properly maintained, and not relying on data practices you wouldn’t be comfortable with to cover those costs.
For camera systems, CCTV systems typically require a separate UPS (battery backup) to keep cameras and recorders powered during an outage. Even then, most internet services (such as NBN) will drop out during a power cut unless your network equipment is also backed up.
This means remote viewing of cameras is usually unavailable during outages unless additional backup systems are in place.
For true reliability and peace of mind during power or internet failures, an alarm system with the Alarm.com app or control room monitoring enables 24-hour battery back up and a 4G or 5G mobile communication for the most dependable solution.
These two layers of backup are critical for reliable security and are something cheaper DIY systems often skip, leaving you exposed at exactly the wrong moment.
In most cases, yes. Blu Sky regularly upgrades existing Adelaide alarm systems rather than replacing them entirely. If your alarm is more than 5 to 10 years old, lacks smartphone integration, or is missing modern features like video surveillance and perimeter arming, an upgrade is usually worth considering. We can often integrate your existing functioning sensors and sirens with the new technology, which saves money and reduces disruption. Most upgrades are completed in a single day, with larger or more complex projects taking two or more days. Add monitored smoke alarms, video doorbells, smart locks, or smart lighting at the same time if you want to.
Most Blu Sky standard alarm or camera home installations are completed within one day, while larger or more complex jobs and commercial systems can take two or more days. The standard process is: free consultation and site assessment, customised system proposal, approval and deposit paid, installation by our licensed home alarm installers, system programming and app configuration, a full walkthrough of how to use everything, and ongoing technical support. Before our team leaves, we test every sensor and camera and make sure you are confident with the app.We work efficiently, keep disruption to a minimum, and clean up after ourselves, so your home or business can continue operating as normal.

Yes. Blu Sky Security Camera systems can be setup with the latest PIR motion sensors with pet-friendly technology, so your alarm protects the property while keeping pets safe and minimising false alarms. During the consultation we ask about your pets, where they sleep, whether they have free run of the house, and whether they tend to climb on furniture, then we choose and position the right sensors for your home. If you have larger pets or multiple pets, we have alternative strategies and zoning options to handle it.
Yes. Every Blu Sky install comes with the manufacturer's warranty on the equipment plus a service warranty on the installation work. We also provide comprehensive after sales support, including remote technical assistance, maintenance and repairs through our maintenance program. Maintenance packages include routine inspections, software updates and battery replacements. If a sensor needs adjusting, the app stops working, or your needs change, book a service call or phone (08) 7123 4177.
It depends on the system being installed.
For traditional CCTV systems (NVR-based), an internet connection is not required for installation or recording. Cameras will still record locally, and you can view footage on a monitor connected directly to the recorder. However, if you want to view cameras remotely on your smartphone, a fixed internet connection is required.
For Alarm.com camera systems, an active internet connection is required. These systems operate via the cloud and store video clips securely online, so a working internet connection is needed for them to function correctly.
Your internet service must include an on-site modem/router with an available Ethernet (LAN) port.
If no internet connection is available on-site, we can supply a 4G modem with a Telstra SIM data plan to provide connectivity for compatible systems. Please contact our team for more information and pricing.
For alarm systems, an internet connection is not required for monitoring. Blu Sky alarm systems use a dedicated 4G cellular SIM, allowing them to communicate directly with the monitoring centre or Alarm.com platform, even if your internet is down.
If you’re unsure or need more information, call our team on (08) 7123 4177 and we’ll confirm what’s required for your setup.
